Never Even Heard Of This Type Malfunction"

Dear
George,
I
want to thank you guys for a quality product.
Two weeks ago I experienced another Raven
Reserve ride (my second). Since my first
malfunction on jump twenty nine, I was hoping
fortune would smile on me for at least a few
years. However, jump 250 was not as kind as
I had hoped.
After
finishing a somewhat successful skydive, my
partner and I broke off at a conservative
altitude of 4500 feet and tracked off. At
3000 feet I deployed my main and watched my
left toggle fire up through the grommet of
my slider. It managed to tangle itself in
my lines just above my slider bumpers. I had
never seen or even heard of this type malfunction.
Being
under a fairly heavily wingloaded ZP canopy,
I immediately became concerned with my increasing
spiral. I checked my altitude (2400 ft) and
tried using my risers. I even tried untangling
the toggle. In my vain efforts, I actually
tangled it up more. At 2000 feet, I finally
grabbed my handles, bent my legs for a good
arch, and pulled. In no time at all, my Raven
II opened softly and on heading.
I
was still over 1600 feet which gave me more
than enough time to spot a proper landing
area. Being just a little over 200 lbs at
exit and the fact that there was little or
no wind, I was prepared to do a PLF.
However,
the Raven Reserve gave me a perfect standup
landing that amazed the crowd. Back in 1994
when I had my first reserve ride, it was on
rental gear which was also equipped with a
Raven II. When I purchased my own equipment,
I insisted on a Raven Reserve due to my experience
with its performance.
My
rigger happened to be at the drop zone that
day. He got all my gear together, and I was
back up within a couple of hours.
Thanks
for saving me... twice
